TSEYAZ /LEJAC/, BRITISH COLUMBIA–Nadleh Whut’en First Nation has invited representatives of the Tsilhqot’in, Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan to join representatives of the Carrier at a signing ceremony for an Accord which commits participating nations to work together to protect their children, lands, waters and environment.
The nations signing the Accord are not waiting for the provincial and federal governments to meaningfully address the broad scope of Aboriginal title that they have always maintained, and which was confirmed by the Supreme Court of Canada in Tsilhqot’in Nation v. British Columbia, rather they are taking action to cooperate in managing their territories pursuant to their own laws.
Media representatives are invited to witness the signing of the Accord, and are also welcome to attend all or part of the entire gathering.
When: Signing of the Accord occurs Saturday August 30, 2014, 1:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The gathering takes place between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Friday August 29 and between 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday August 30.
