Sweetgrass Protocols for Culturally Responsible Journalism

As Indigenous Peoples, we conduct every aspect of our lives by holding ourselves accountable to our communities. With every word and with every decision great care is given to consider the consequences of our actions, whether they are real or imagined. We do this to ensure that the community as a whole will benefit.

The Sweetgrass Protocols for Culturally Responsible Journalism are designed to instill this sense of accountability in journalists so that they can cultivate and sustain respectful working relationships with Indigenous Peoples and support accurate and respectful reporting.

We're fighting for our lives

Indigenous Peoples are putting their bodies on the line and it's our responsibility to make sure you know why. That takes time, expertise and resources - and we're up against a constant tide of misinformation and distorted coverage. By supporting IC you're empowering the kind of journalism we need, at the moment we need it most.
