John Ahniwanika Schertow is a self-taught journalist, editor, web developer and graphic designer of Mohawk and European descent. For over a decade, John has served as the driving force behind Intercontinental Cry, an online indigenous media outlet that he also founded.
As a poet and freelance journalist, John has been featured in the Guardian, Toward Freedom, the Dominion and numerous other publications. In 2011, he won a Project Censored Award for his coverage of a coordinated military attack on Samburu Pastoralists in north central Kenya.
