Long Live IC Magazine!

By John Ahni Schertow

The last couple weeks have been a little rough here at IC Magazine. Fortunately, thanks to the recent offerings of some our closest friends and allies–and a few more to come–we’re in a good place to get back to work!

A couple things will have to stay on the shelf just a little while longer, due to the amount of attention they require, but with your donations we will be able to carry forward no problem.

Most importantly, this includes our next magazine, Indigenous Struggles 2013.

Once our financial future is looking a bit more brighter, we’re also planning to start a monthly podcast in the style of Underreported Struggles.

As well, we will be carrying out a complete redesign of our website, which will look a little something like this:

Among the many news features of IC (5.0) we will have a membership section for our sustainers, our press release section will become a little more formalized, and the depth of our coverage will become far more accessible.

As a show of appreciation to our many great writers, we’re also going to start handing out virtual awards to honour the good work that they do.

With the partial success of our first fundraiser, we’re also now in a good position to get non-profit status, which means we just have to finish putting together our Board of Directors and find a few more ethical funding sources that we can approach for the long road ahead. Our new investigations program alone will require $20,000 a year. We’re going all-out!

Before we can fully get to all this (and everything else we’re planning), we just need to build up IC’s foundation a little more. Most of the legwork falls on myself, so it’s going to take a bit of time, but with the unyielding support of our readers, friends and allies around the world, it’s only a matter of time before IC becomes the magazine that it needs to be, for all Indigenous Nations and Peoples!
