Khelsilem Rivers on Indigenous Struggles in Canada

By John Ahni Schertow

During his recent trip to Aotearoa (New Zealand), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh-Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw (Squamish) community organizer Khelsilem Rivers sat down for a candid 30-minute discussion with Haukainga, a bilingual (Maori and English) TV Show produced by Te Hiku Media.

During his interview, Khelsilem explores a number of important issues, including the history of his Nation, the Idle No More movement, and his ongoing work in language revitalization. It’s definitely worth a listen.

Khelsilem Rivers is a Sḵwx̱wú7mesh-Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw community organizer from Vancouver, British Columbia. He has worked for a number of years on decolonization and language reclamation supporting the resurgence of Indigenous peoples around principles of justice, freedom, and liberation.
