Democracy Now, a liberal-leaning radio show and TV news program, broadcast speeches from a recent forum on indigenous rights in New York City.
“Indigenous Peoples’ Resistance to Economic Globalization a Celebration of Victories, Rights and Cultures” was sponsored by the International Forum on Globalization and the Tebtebba Foundation. It was held November 18 and featured more than two dozen speakers on indigenous issues across North America.
Democracy Now broadcast the speeches of Elouise Cobell, the lead plaintiff in the Indian trust fund lawsuit; Felix Villca, a senior adviser to Evo Morales, Bolivia’s first indigenous president; Sheila Watt-Cloutier, a former chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council; and Mililani Trask, a Native Hawaiian activist.
