Buried Voices

By John Ahni Schertow

Buried Voices provides insight into the Ohlone, Miwok and Yokut Peoples’ ongoing struggle to protect one of their most sacred places, an area near Livermore, California, now known as Brushy Peak.

The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD), which maintains and operates a system of regional parks within the San Francisco Bay Area, turned the site into a recreation area without consulting any of the concerned Indigenous Peoples.

The Ohlone, Miwok and Yokut are now pushing to hold EBRPD accountable for their actions and to encourage them to create a responsible position for the future.
