25 Jul 2010 - In a landmark ruling on June 28, 2010, the Supreme Court of Belize affirmed that the Maya People's Land Rights are protected under the Constitution. Unfortunately, if the government gets its way, the important decision will soon be reversed. Please take a moment to urge the Belize government to withdraw its appeal---and support the Maya's Rights!
30 Jun 2010 - The government of Papua New Guinea doesn’t want to hear from us. It has authorized a Chinese mining company to dump toxic waste into the sea, dissolved the Constitutional rights of all landowners in the country, and Banned all reporting and public discussion of these decisions. They cannot, however, keep us silent. Please lend your voice to the people of Papua New Guinea
29 May 2010 - This is the pronouncement of the World People's Movement for Mother Earth, which demands that the United Nations climate change negotiations be inclusive, transparent, and equitable, and incorporate the proposals presented by the World People's Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth in order to find real solutions to the climate crisis and save humanity and our Mother Earth as we know it
29 Apr 2010 - A Chinese company wants to dump 100 million tons of toxic waste onto the seafloor of Basamuk Bay in Papua New Guinea. This waste will invariably poison fish stocks, endanger human health and cause "extreme ecological destruction" to the seabed. Please take a moment to urge the PNG government to stop this disposal plan from going ahead. There are better, safer ways to get rid of this waste!
3 Apr 2010 - Send a message to Enbridge CEO Patrick Daniel opposing the Northern Gateway Pipeline project. The Enbridge pipeline endangers several indigenous territories, more than 1,000 rivers and streams, the Great Bear Rainforest and the Coastal waters of British Columbia. The consequences of "inevitable" oil spills far exceed any benefits of the project.
24 Mar 2010 - Gilgel Gibe 3 Hydropower Dam is the largest investment project ever implemented in Ethiopia. Once completed, the dam will block the south western part of the Omo River, creating a 150 km long basin which will jeopardize the river’s fragile ecosystem forever and dramatically affect the life of about 500.000 people living in southwest Ethiopia and northern Kenya.
18 Jan 2010 - For over three decades in Ecuador, Chevron chose profit over people and the environment. While drilling in the Ecuadorian Amazon, Chevron deliberately dumped more than 18 billion gallons of toxic wastewater and spilled roughly 17 million gallons of crude oil. Surpassing the Exxon Valdez spill by millions of gallons, it is one of the worst environmental disasters on the planet. Thousands of indigenous people have been paying the price, suffering from mouth and uterine cancer, birth defects, and spontaneous miscarriages.

7 Nov 2009 - The Guarani-Kaiowá is an indigenous population living in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul. In the past, they were pushed off their traditional lands to make way for large agricultural plantations and cattle raising, notwithstanding national law which stipulates demarcation of indigenous lands. On October 7, 2009, the Ministry of Justice declared the permanent ownership of an area of 11,404 hectares situated in the municipality of Caarapó to the indigenous group Guyraroká (Directive No- 3.219). This decision, is a step forward in the process of guaranteeing the human right to food of the 130 indigenous people, however is yet to be sanctioned by the President and duly implemented.
6 Nov 2009 - Here you will find an urgent action call-out from the Frente Amplio Opositor a la Minera San Xavier, San Luis Potosí, Mexico to send to Mexican and Canadian authorities demanding the application of the law and the immediate departure of New Gold-Minera San Xavier that has been operating in the Cerro de San Pedro since 1996. The project has engendered severely harmful environmental and social impacts despite the fact that not all of their permits are legal. This was confirmed by a recent ruling of Mexico’s superior court of fiscal and administrative justice. The company is seeking an injunction. International pressure is critical if justice is to be carried out. Thank you for your solidarity.
29 Oct 2009 - Urge the Attorney General of Ontario to drop all criminal charges against the Site 41 protesters who were arrested for peacefully protesting the construction of a landfill at Site 41 in Simcoe County, Ontario.
The Simcoe County Council has decided not to proceed with the construction of the landfill, and most residents in Simcoe County feel the protesters played an important and entirely positive role in contributing to the project's termination.
27 Oct 2009 - The Fisher Bay Park Reserve, on the west side of Lake Winnipeg, is a treasure house of boreal forest that includes lush mainland, spectacular islands, sandy beach shorelines, shoals and reefs, and the water of the bay. This is Fisher River Cree Nations traditional territory and home to moose, black bear, pelicans, eagles, and ducks.
Furthermore, the area's little-used beaches provide suitable grounds for the Piping Plover, a highly endangered shorebird, to lay its eggs. To conserve the environment and support a sustainable local tourism economy, Fisher River Cree Nation has requested establishment of a provincial park that secures the area from industrial activities such as logging and mining. Fisher River Cree Nation is proposing boundaries for the park based on ecological and cultural analysis.

14 Aug 2009 - For indigenous peoples, community radio may be the only source of information available in their language. It’s how they learn from external sources about civic elections, AIDS prevention, flood warnings and daily news. It’s how they share local information among themselves, celebrate their unique cultures, and organize community action.
Despite many promises, the legal use of radio frequencies remains inaccessible for indigenous communities in Guatemala.
Actions Needed: (1) Urge the president of Guatemala to support a bill to legalize indigenous maya community radio stations; (2) Forward this alert to your community radio station and ask for their support!
