Toxic waste flowing into the rivers around the Alberta Tar Sands’ strip-mined landscape isn’t the only problem with bitumen extraction. As Andrew Nikiforuk reports for The Tyee, carcinogenic gasses generated by processing the bitumen before it can be pumped through pipelines are making Tar Sands neighbors sick.
