The Homalco (also known as Xwémalhkwu) are a Coast Salish People whose traditional territories encompass Bute Inlet, British Columbia, as well as the Inlet’s surrounding areas. The Homalco’s population today is estimated at about 230 people.
Along with the Sliammon, Klahoose and K’omoks Peoples, the Homalco speak the Éy7á7juuthem language. Linguists, however, refer to the language as “Comox” and “Mainland Comox”.
