The Haudenosaunee or the “People of the Longhouse” are a confederation made up of the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Tuscarora and Mohawk Nations.
For more than a thousand years, the Haudenosaunee have maintained the founding constitution known as the Kaianere’kó:wa (the Great Law of Peace) which was conceived and written by Deganwidah (Tekanawí:ta’) known as The Great Peacemaker; his spokesperson, Hiawatha (Aiewáhtha); and Tsikónhsase, a clan mother seldom mentioned in the history books.
With a population today of about 80,000 people in the U.S and 45,000 in Canada, the Haudenosaunee continue to maintain their cultures and Traditions.
