Often referred to as the “Motilones” the Bari are an offshoot of the Chibcha-speaking Muisca People, who specialized in metalworks. The Muisca were one of the most politically-advanced Indigenous Peoples in South America. They maintained a Confederacy not unlike the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
Over the centuries, the Bari have suffered a constant loss of territory which now spans through northeastern Colombia and western Venezuela. Their population is estimated at roughly 3,600 people.
