The Embera People live in the Darien of Panama and the department of Choco in Colombia.
In Panama they inhabit the same areas as the Waounan with whom they share many cultural similarities. The Embera-Wounaan were formerly known by the name Chocó, and they speak the Choco language.
In Colombia, the Embera have an estimated population of about 71,000, making them the third largest indigenous group in the Country.
