Last week, a Justice Committee concluded that due to the lack of public support for the changes proposed by the bill, and because of the "potential negative impact on relationships between Maori and the Crown" and "its possible unintended effect on settlements already reached" among other reasons, the references to the treaty should remain constitutionally entrenched.
