Roseau River First Nation has just started a video campaign to raise awareness about the issue of oil, poverty, land theft, and violence against indigenous People in Canada - compared to that of what happened to Iraqis when economic sanctions were imposed on them some ten years ago.

Around 100 villagers gathered in front of the German, Austrian and Swiss embassies on Tuesday to protest against the construction of the Ilisu Dam on the River Tigris. Once completed, the controversial project would submerge the ancient town of Hasankeyf (it’s 12,000 years old) along with 200 nearby villages, displacing up to 78,000 people.

Not sure who to support in the Middle East? As usual, solidarity is complicated - especially when distance, language and cultural barriers and the fog of war conspire against getting a good, clear look at what is really going on.
