Historic Meeting of Indigenous Peoples of Argentina

On June 24 and 25, Indigenous Peoples from around Argentina gathered for an historic event — the First National Meeting of Indigenous Nations and Peoples of Argentina. During the meeting, intensive discussions were held about land, identity, and other matters. And at the end, a consensus was reached: “We are uniting and joining forces, like small rivers which flow together to form a giant, revolutionary river.”

II Encounter of the Zapatista Peoples with the Peoples of the World

The EZLN recently announced the details of the second encuentro, set for the end of July… The first encounter which took place in January of this year brought together thousands of community supporters and over 1,500 men and women from 40 countries around the world.

Summit of the People of the South - June 28 and 29

This year’s Summit — bringing together social groups, NGO’s indigenous peoples, and others from around South America — is focusing on continuing the debates discussed in previous summits (Chile 1998, Quebec 2001, Mar de Plata 2005, Còrdoba 2006, Cochabamba 2006), and to move towards creating an expanded alliance between different social sectors, aswell as to discuss matters of sovereignty in South America.

V Continental Encounter of Indigenous Women

Continental Meetings of Women of the Americas have been major events for Indigenous community leaders and organizations from North, Central and South America. They are coordinated by the Continental Network of Indigenous Women of the Americas (ENLACE), which Quebec Native Women Inc. is a member.

The Fourth Meeting took place in Lima (Peru, 2004) and united more than three hundred women from over twenty countries. These Continental Meetings are unique platforms that encourage the development of Indigenous women’s leadership and insuring their political participation in international forums.

This year the Fifth Continental Meeting of Indigenous Women of the Americas 2007 will take place from July 9 to 11 in Kahnawake, Quebec, Canada, under the theme Restoring our Balance. Zapatistas Announce Intercontinental Summit
To be hosted by the Yaqui of Vicam in Sonora, Mexico
Oct. 11 — 14, 2007

By Brenda Norrell - RANCHO EL PENASCO, Sonora, Mexico – Indigenous Peoples from Mexico and the United States met with Subcomandante Marcos and Zapatista Comandantes to establish the Indigenous Intercontinental Conference for 2007.

The Intercontinental gathering will be held in the Yaqui community of Vicam in Rio Yaqui, Sonora, on the northwest coast, Oct. 11 – 14, 2007.
Comandante David, Mayan from Chiapas, welcomed the world’s Indigenous Peoples to the intercontinental gathering.

“At this moment, we want to let the Indigenous Peoples of Mexico, Canada, the United States, Central America, South America and the whole world know what we are planning,” Comandante David said in an interview here, speaking in Spanish.
