January 4th of this year marked the 16th anniversary of the day more than 300,000 Ogonis participated in “a mass non-violent protest against the devastation of their environment by the heartless multinational, oppressive, genocidal, and apartheid-like policies of both the Nigerian authorities and Royal Dutch Shell towards them.”

Three years ago the BC government sold Shell Canada drilling rights to explore for coalbed methane within Tahltan Lands, located in what’s now known as British Columbia, Canada.

The Talthan were never truly consulted in this business deal, hadn’t been informed of the dangers connected to Coalbed Methane, and in fact didn’t even known where Shell was planning to drill until they bulldozed an access road through a Tahltan trapper’s camp in the Sacred Headwaters region.

Once Shell completed drilling some test wells (in 2005), questions started to be asked …

Between Two Worlds is a collaboration between the filmmaker, Ariel Lopez Segovia, the Mapuche community of the Lago Budi area of Chile, and the US-based NGO Pachamama Conservation, which for the past 7 years has been working closely with women artisans to preserve their traditional craft, building deep relationships with Mapuche elders and youth, as well as elected leaders and support organizations.

Vancouver – A BC Supreme Court justice today sentenced Betty Krawczyk, age 78, to ten months in jail for protesting the destruction of a wetlands last year. A crowd of Betty’s supporters took over the lobby of the Supreme Court building in downtown Vancouver, chanting “Shame, shame” and beating drums. The courthouse was closed for two hours and CBC Radio reports two people were arrested for “resisting arrest.”
