On a recent expedition to supervise the Peru-Brazil border, the Brazilian Ashaninkas received death threats from a task leader of the Peruvian company Venao Forestal—raising concerns about the possibility of violent clashes in the future. Venao is also manipulating and creating conflict among the Ashaninka, exploiting them for wood.

Venao is one of many companies that illegally crosses into Brazil to log trees like mahogany and cedar.

The Ashaninka Society of the Rio Amônia sent out a notice of concern regarding the actions of Venao, and is calling for immediate action by …

Many IDPs remain exposed to violence and other human rights violations during their displacement. Often they have no or only very limited access to food, employment, …

Bringing millions of immigrants and their families and supporters into the streets was a huge accomplishment. But much more needs to be done to consolidate a fragmented movement and bring on new allies.

Last April, a group of African Americans and Black immigrants in Oakland, California came together to form the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI). “BAJI was founded to support the demands of the immigrant rights movement and to …

This is not going over well in Indian Country and for good reason. The border has been in place only for about 200 years and it’s totally arbitrary when it comes to our traditional national boundaries.

In Saskatchewan, members of the Dakota Nation sought asylum in Canada following …
