The solution is outside the colonial framework
January 23, 2007 | 4 Comments | 736 views
A moment ago I read some commentary by Noel Pearson, published on December 30, 2006 in the Australian. (link).
I think it was a sincere attempt to provide some solutions to a pretty serious problem - that being the disproportionately high number of Aboriginal People in jail — but he also said a few things that troubled me greatly.
I would I’d like to talk about these things, in addition to the broader issue of problem solving in Colonial Societies.
Coming to Terms with Problems and Solutions
First, it’s important to understand that in Colonial society, alot of very big assumptions …

The following is a discussion started by a member here, which originally took place within our old forum. Eventually an essay will be put together based on it.
May 17, RevolutionReversal: hey folks,
this is a discussion I’ve been wanting to start for sometime, its quite hypothetical and idealists, nonetheless an important question for myself. So do to treaties, the various Native Nations have legal/ethical/spiritual claim the land. So if you get all the land back; how and on what terms do the non-natives that were born here integrate with your new sovereignty over the majority of the land? Will it …

A few years ago I stumbled upon the concept “Legal Fiction.” Aside from the fact that I didn’t (even remotely) trust the source who wrote of this concept, the concept itself took me for a nice walk around the world, and really helped me put things into perspective.
My previous mentor felt the same - It reaffirmed, via cliche - a reality that is sometimes difficult to come to terms with:
Eventhough there is a standard universal reality that always has and always will exist regardless of our belief or awareness of it, there is also dynamic secular reality, which is …
The Genographic Project - A discomforting view

I’ve been following the genographic project (off and on) for several months now - mainly because I was amazed by the opinions and perspectives of those who talk about it. Many speak of it like it’s the latest, greatest, coolest thing ever.
Most Indigenous People (on Turtle Island) though, are staunchly opposed to it.
I myself am of the same mind - I don’t support it at all, and the article and comments posted on the following website very deeply reaffirmed it for me. One line especially…

So the UN Declaration was scrapped. Now What?
November 30, 2006 | 5 Comments | 1,011 views
Well none of us should be suprised. Eventhough this declaration is non-binding (like all other UN declarations) it clearly proved to be too much for Nation-States to accept (in good faith.)
Who can blame them? Can you imagine Indigenous Nations having a right to their own territory (in principle)? Can you imagine Nation-States like Canada having to ask Indigenous Nations permission (in theory) to relocate them? Or indigenous histories, languages, customs, and traditions having (the conceptual) right to exist? I know, it’s unthinkable… and so the Nation States, remaining ever true themselves as Masters of their own Universe - agreed to …

Response to “On the Other Side of the Barricade”
First Maximilian, thank you for taking the time to write “On the Other Side of the Barricade .” You raised a number of important points and questions with regard the dynamics of the situation in Caledonia, and the overall situation of Onkwehonweh People.
There are a number of things I would like to discuss, clarify, and expand from your writing…
When most people view the situation in Caledonia, it is assumed there are only a few Parties involved: The Six Nations, The Government, and Caledonians. The reality is that there is …
