The Takelma are one of the 27 bands of native people from 11 distinct language groups who were taken from their homelands in the 1850s, and who now comprise the Confederated Tribes of Siletz.
The name Takelma means “Those Along the River”, referring to the Rogue River in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon, where the Takelma ltraditionally lived.
