As Editor and Publisher, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jennifer L. Penland to IC Magazine’s Board of Directors.
An Assistant Professor and Indigenous Scholar at Shepherd University, Dr. Penland will serve as Vice-Chair, a position held previously by Tracy Barnett, who will continue to serve on the Board of Directors, and will now assume the role of Associate Editor.
With the addition of Dr. Penland, IC Magazine’s Board of Directors combines her experience as an educator with that of other board members in communications and journalism. Her dedication to indigenous resiliency, social justice and culturally responsive pedagogy will help the publication in its mission to educate, inform and inspire. With Ms. Barnett’s experience as an editor, IC has now laid the foundation to implement its strategic plan.
Indigenous Peoples are putting their bodies on the line and it's our responsibility to make sure you know why. That takes time, expertise and resources - and we're up against a constant tide of misinformation and distorted coverage. By supporting IC you're empowering the kind of journalism we need, at the moment we need it most.
