I'm doing a project on how Mayan women play into the matter, through leadership and solidarity. I spent a vacation in Belize but didn't get to see the brutality of the Belize government. I was actually on a very touristy island called San Pedro Belize but I did see some indigenous to Belize there selling jewelry and blankets. The country is pretty civilized and safe and so it was a big surprise to read this about their government and how they treat their own people.
